We present 17 mock-up user interface images from the up and coming Windows 7 operating system, which is set to hit the shelves in 2010. These pictures aren’t official, but I think they look great! I have put together 18 more screenshots here.

PLEASE NOTE: These are fakes; however, read this article

why does it look like linux more and more?

  2. barry Says:

Because if it looked like Mac they would be wasting even more money.

  3. skymera Says:

I like the way it’s called Windows 7.. yet that screenshot shows Windows build 6.

    Which is Vista.
    Fake. Any idiot can tell.

  4. John K Says:

Yes and any idiot knows that Windows 7 is being built on top of Vista with a new Kernel. Do your research skymera.

  5. Amit Says:

Very impressive, thank you for sharing these and I look forward to more updates. I second the above comment; W7 is built on Win6/Vista.. some people…

To go to this much “work” of forgery and forget something like that makes less sense that this guy’s comment!

  6. Dan Says:

I want to see more! Please, I cannot find anything like this on the net… all I can find is the very vista-esque shots - these are fantastic!

  7. Canos Says:

STUMBLED for others to see. Thanks

P.S this page is on PopURLs.com and del.icio.us — good job

  8. Jimbo Says:

Yea right. Looks like photoshop and big vista dreams to me

  9. Tony Says:

Then Microsoft should employ this mystic photoshopper because they are amazing!

  10. Rich Says:

While still being a little skeptical, I do like the look of these screenshots. Check back for updates.

  11. noname Says:

Er, sorry but what is that?

I looked through the screenshots and I would be VERY surprised if Windows 7 looked even a little bit like that.

Circular menus don’t work. Nothing more to say. They have been tried over and over but whenever they have to be flexible they get cluttered - that is why they work in e.g. games - but not for something as flexible as a start menu, drive selection etc.

Then look for example at screenshot #2.There are good effects (like zooming windows to their taskbar-equivalent) which help the user understand what’s going on and there are bad effects which basically distract the user. This is definitely a “bad” effect.

The same goes for e.g. #16.

Yes I am a Linux user, but that really has nothing to do with this.

I like the idea of the rest of the Windows 7 marketing-talk (e.g. splitting it into parts).

But then again - when Vista was announced (Longhorn, hehe) there were similar rumors…

  12. alex Says:

I agree that circular start menues don’t work but do you think that will stop them? Vista alienated all kinds of users with it’s new organization.

  13. AccessDEANied Says:

These ring menus remind me of Secret of Mana / Seiken Densetsu for the Super Nintendo so much! Would make for an interesting UI for XBOX360 or something actually.

  14. XaiaX Says:

Those are all pretty fuglarious. Radial navigation is an interesting idea, but those all look like UIs designed for small screens, the buttons are enormous.

I’d be more inclined to think these were mock ups for some MS competitor to the iPhone interface, with a bunch of “touch the center and move out to the selection” type rings.

    Stilly fugly, though.

  15. Vexamus Says:

I’m going to play devil’s advocate here and suggest the idea that perhaps they’ve created an extensible UI that’s customizable. So not just skins and such but you can modify various UI elements? Perhaps they’re toying around with various layouts and such to demonstrate the extensibility and customizability of the new UI. Imagine how bad ass it’d be if you could shape the UI any way you wished.

Maybe I’m just being hopeful. Smile

  16. noname Says:

    Yup, fake:

These are some sweet screenshots, but I dont think theyre real
