Show Only Specific Control Panel Items [How To]

Windows Vista Guides Add comments

Customize Control Panel Items
The control panel is the portal to make many changes on your computer. If you would like to restrict control panel items access, follow this guide.

Please Note: This guide involves the use of the Group Policy Editor, which is not included with Vista Home Premium/Basic or Windows XP Home. If this is the first time you are using the Group Policy Editor, read this guide.

Unfortunately I do not know how to do this tweak using only the registry. If you know how, please contact me.

  • Start Group Policy Editor (Start > Run > “gpedit.msc”)
  • In the left panel, go to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Control Panel
  • In the right panel, enable Show only specified Control Panel Items
  • Press the Show… button
    Customize Control Panel Items 1
  • Type in the names of the items you want to keep. When you are done, press OK and check your control panel

If you wish to apply the changed policy setting immediately, open a command prompt and run gpupdate/force
