You try to initiate the dialer in Windows 7 and only found that it doesn’t work and returned with an Error 651: Your modem (or other connecting device) has reported an error. You had tried to restart your PC, your router, your modem etc. and the problem doesn’t go away.

The Possible Solutions

It is not hard to find that there are a number of users encounter this issue on the internet, but surprisingly this error bugs some of the Windows 7 (Beta or even RTM) users and it seems that there is actually no official solution for it.

I must admit that I am a big fan of Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE). Since Microsoft has the most popular consumer operating system in the world, why don’t they take up the responsibility in releasing a security program for their users for free? Of course, I am aware that Microsoft has previously released a few – less noticeable security programs, like Windows Defender (pre-installed in Windows Vista/7 and will be disabled if the user installs MSE) and Windows Live OneCare (which was a paid subscription and discontinued), but most Windows users still prefer to use some free security software offered by third parties (and most of them are ad-supported), due to various reasons. Don’t be surprised that some of new PC users aren’t aware of the importance of a security product for Windows, and some don’t have security software installed (and they aren’t aware that they are exposed to the various threats during browsing), so it is pretty important (and I think it’s quite fundamental) for Microsoft to have a competitive in-house security program for all Windows users, for free of course, and the answer is Microsoft Security Essentials. In Part 1, I covered some printing techniques to reduce paper wastage, namely Duplex Printing, Multiple Pages per Sheet, Content Editing, Print Preview, and Digital Format. If you haven’t come across it, you are welcomed to look into Part 1 before going into Part 2.

In this part, I will be covering some software that are specifically written to assist computer users in reducing paper wastage, as well as help in saving printing inks (they are expensive!) The software covered are mixed with free and commercial versions, and I list out the pros and cons for each software, and give some recommendations for those who are looking at a free solution. There is one common characteristic for all these software: all of them will be installed as a virtual printer in your operating system to streamline the printing process. Paper wastage in printing is an issue that always bugged many industries, whether they are aware or unaware about the wastage, which can have an impact in environment and economy. According to a study, a typical service industry worker uses about 10,000 sheets of paper for printing every year, or one sheet every 12 minutes. And you’d surprised to find out that 90% of those printed papers are only used for a short while; the majority of them will be discarded without being reuse. As a hobbyist photographer, I only bring my camera along when there is an event/gathering/photography session. However, there are always times when an interesting scene or idea that’s worth a capture comes across my mind but the camera isn’t with me at that moment, and I have to rely on my mobile phone’s camera feature. While the camera on the phone isn’t that bad (upcoming Nokia N8 has a 12 Megapixels sensor), one of the big disadvantages for most of the phone’s camera is their poor light sensor (to compensate the small size of the phone), and under low light conditions, some of the photos taken have to deal with noise.
