If you like to customize your folder icons in Vista, you can either download custom icons or use Windows’ build in icons. In this guide, you’ll learn how to change a folder icon and how to find more icons, which are built right into Vista.
Customize Folder Icons
To customize folder icons, do the following:
- Right click on the folder you want to customize and click Properties
- Under the Customize tab, click Change Icon…
- Select an icon from the list and click OK
- Click OK on the folder properties screen to save changes
Locating More Icons
To find more folder icons, do the following:
- Right click on the folder you want to customize and click Properties
- Under the Customize tab, click Change Icon…
- On the Change Icon For… screen, highlight SHELL32.dll (in the path for icons)
- Replace SHELL32.dll with imageres.dll
- Browse for a new icon and follow steps 3 and 4 above
Now you can add your personal touch to your system. Below is an example of my E (Media) partition.
