How to Upload to Windows SkyDrive from Desktop

If you have a windows live account then you'll love this!
If you don't, get one, the free 25GB is amazing :D

I'll show you how to set up your PC to upload your files directly to Windows SkyDrive through the 'send to' context menu.

1.Firstly you'll need the free starter edition of Gladinet cloud Desktop
When it's finished downloading, install it. You'll see that it's added a new network location in Computer
(Note, use a drive letter towards the end of the alphabet)

Image

2.Double click the new entry and you can set up SkyDrive .
As we're using SkyDrive, pick that from the drop down list and name your drive.

3.Create a safe card for login, use your Windows Live credentials

4.Choose whether you want the directory to open when finish and click on finish.

Image

Once it's finished you'll see SkyDrive's directory in Windows Explorer is the same in web-based SkyDrive.

Image

You can now drag & drop items up to 50MB into the folders and it'll upload instantly to SkyDrive.

6.Next, we're going to add the folders to the 'send to' context menu.
Open an explorer windows and in the address bar type; shell:sendto

Image

You'll see all the entries to the send to context menu here.

7.Open another explorer window and navigate to your SkyDrive folder. For example, i'm going to use my Pictures folder. Right click and drag the folder you want in the send to context menu to create a shortcut.

Image

You can rename the new shortcut if you want.

8.Now, when you want to send some files to SkyDrive, right click the item, go to send to and then choose your new entry.

That's all folks :D

I have installed Gladinet Cloud Desktop and added my SkyDrive to the context menu. Thanks for the tutorial rsvr85. :)

Now I am trying to change the icon. I have right clicked, selected Properties and gone to the Customize tab. In the section, Folder Pictures, I clicked the Choose File... button. I have tried .png and .ico files. It seems to accept either, however, the icon doesn't change. Am I missing something or doing something wrong?

Also, is there a way to correct the memory "bar meter" or remove it? I couldn't find any settings in the Gladinet app.

I think the meter stays as it is unless you change the icon size and loose all of the bars together...........which icon are you trying to change?

I was trying to change the network drive icon (the default one) for the SkyDrive to a Windows logo.

you need to made some changes to the registry so please see here before proceeding.
This guide is a little vague, i'll endeavour to make a proper guide soon!

Open Regedit (Wink+R > regedit > Enter)
Navigate to - HKCU\Software\Classes\Applications\Explorer.exe (if none of these keys exist create them)
Under Explorer.exe create a new key called Drives

Under Drives create a new key for each drive you want to customise.

Under the new drive letter keys create a new key called DefaultIcon
Select the DefaultIcon key and in the right hand pane double click on the (Default) string and enter the location of your 256x256 .ico file (without quotation marks).

Hit F5 in Explorer and your drives should have custom icons :D

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
