Windows Guides Feed

For the next week, I’m going to run a series of guides that will help you build and run a website on your Windows machine.

If you would like to build your own website, you can do it on your own computer without putting it online. This can be useful for a number of reasons:

  1. You don’t have your own web hosting but you want the experience of complete access
  2. You want to test a website before you put it online
  3. You want to start a website that helps you organize your life, for example, but you don’t always have access to the internet

To get these guides, you can subscribe to the RSS feed (don’t know what RSS is?), or subscribe by e-mail.

Installing Apache, MySQL, and PHP in Windows

Installing WordPress on Your Local Windows Installation

Sounds Great! I’ve always wanted to test scripts and HTML on my laptop before I put them on my site with WebTV. This would give me a way of doing that. Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion Felipe. Do you know much about Apache security? (I don’t know much, but I’d love to learn.)

I haven’t done anything with websites before. I am self-taught in VBA and I can find my way around in ASP. Is that enough knowledge to be able to use this?

Yes, with the coming guides, you’ll never touch code until you make the decision to. We’ll cover WordPress and Drupal–both are written in PHP.
