Windows 7: Rate and Improve Your Computer’s Performance [How To]

Like Windows Vista, Windows Seven comes with a performance rating tool, which rates your system and then gives you tips on improving it. In this guide, you’ll learn how to use Windows 7’s Performance Information Tools to rate your system.

Rate and Improve Your System

To rate your system, do the following:

Click the Start button, type perf, and click on Performance Information and Tools
Click on Rate this computer and let the tests run
After the test is complete, Windows will offer suggestions on how to improve your computer’s performance

My HDD appears as 2.9 under Windows 7.
If I disable under the device manager writing cache and advance performance mode, then I get 5.3 like under Vista.
Either the HDD option was put on reverse, or there is a bug in Windows 7. I am still investigating in to this, also seeing if my HDD is faster with writing cache off (I know in Vista and XP it was not the case)

when i try it my computer freezes! I have to shut down. My computer is running fine though with windows 7 I just cant rate it!

It could be a driver related issue. Remember that Windows 7 drivers for your device could be not liking it because they are Vista drivers or that the drive is in alpha/beta stage.

In any case, it is critical to submit a feedback to Microsoft. Someone else is for sure to have the same problem. Having a few of similar issue will make Microsoft make the fix a priority and get it get fixed sometime before the final version. I am sure you don’t want your system to not be Windows 7 ready.

ditto for me… stock dell dimension 2400… I couldn’t even find a Vista display driver so I installed the latest XP driver from the intel site for my onboard video

the assessment or other operation didnot complete successfully this is due to an error being reported from the operating system , driver or other component”

media decoding performance issue is quite interesting. I installed win 7 on my IDE HDD. No problem occured. But now, as I installed it on my SATA HDD I am facing it. I reboted 2 times in the mid way. As I read this thread, I am now waiting for 3 minutes for it to stop. Computer is completely frozen. No mouse movement, no Ctrl+Alt+Del, I hope it finishes

“Cannot complete assessment.
The assessment or other operation did not complete successfully. This is due to an error being reported from the operating system, driver, or other component.”

  Probably nothing. As Windows 7 is in early development, error messages like that are likely inaccurate.

My computer’s rate is 1.0
it told me new hardware detected
