PROS: Streaming TV, for free, to your media center with little thought on your part — magical. CONS: This program is still relatively new and, partly due to availability, does not have a huge host of choice for TV shows. Not compatible with XP Media Center. VERDICT: This software has great potential and, I’m sure, as it continues to improve, it will become a key and in for Windows Media Center. TunerFree MCE Features
From the author:
In the UK we have a number of different web sites from the TV companies of varying quality, and all require you to use the mouse, so are not ideal for media center use. The online content available to media center users in the UK seems to be dwindling to nothing. I was fed up with that situation, so I decided to write a Vista MCE add-in to bring all of the live TV and catch up programs from the UK’s main TV providers (BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Five), as well as all of the BBC Radio stations.
To add to what the author says about his program, this software will stream UK and US TV shows to your PC. The US shows are handled via Hulu. When you set up TunerFree MCE, I recommend using the custom installation so you can pick US and UK TV channels. Just remember, if you’re outside of the UK you will not likely to be able to stream BBC channels.
Once you’ve installed the software, TunerFree MCE will begin to add channels to the Media Center interface. This may take some time so go take a break.
Once the task is completed, you can access TunerFree MCE from your Windows Media Center Main menu.
