Many of the guides on this site are specific to an operating system. If you don’t know what operating system you are using, this tip will help you find out (regardless of what theme or customizations may be in place.)
Windows Guides reader RedDawg offers the following tip for the easiest method:
Try holding the ‘Windows Logo key’ and tap ‘Pause / Break’ key
The easiest way Another way to know which operating system you are using and whether it is 32-bit or 64-bit is to:
1. Click the Start button, right click Computer, and click Properties.
2. Look for the following information on the System screen:
This screen shows we are using Windows 7 and it’s the 64-bit version.
Here’s another example:
This example is Windows XP 32 bit. Even thought it doesn’t say 32-bit, you can assume it is because it doesn’t say x64 Edition (see the next example):
Here’s what Windows XP 64 bit‘s System Properties looks like:
Here’s a final example:
We see this is Windows Vista 32 bit:
