Sometimes, when you connect to a wireless network, that works all the time, you’ll find that the Internet doesn’t work even though you are seemingly connected. I get this on campus and in this guide you will learn one of the simple tricks I use to avoid the need to restart your computer to get the Internet working again.
Using IPConfig /Release /Renew
IPConfig is a tool built into Windows; you can access this tool via the command line. in this guide, you’ll learn how to use this tool from the command line or download a batch file which automatically releases and renews your Internet connection.
Fix Your Connection via the Command Line
To repair your Internet connection using the command line, do the following:
- Press WINKEY+R, type cmd and press Enter
- When the Command Line comes up, type ipconfig /release
- Now type ipconfig /renew
- Wait a few moments and try your internet again. Hopefully this fixes your problem. If not, at least you learned another troubleshooting tip.
Fix Your Connection with a Batch File
If you not you want to use the command line to attempt to fix the Internet, you can download a simple batch file, which I prepared, that’s will run the commands mentioned above automatically.
Simply download the zip file below, extract it, and run the.bat file. Now try your Internet connection and hopefully it works for you.
