Update Group Policy without Restarting Your Computer
Windows 7 News & Development, Windows Vista Guides, Windows XP Guides Add commentsIf you make a change to the group policy on your Windows XP Professional; Vista Business or Ultimate; or Windows 7 Ultimate machine, you will need to restart your computer to make the changes take effect. In this guide, you’ll learn how to avoid restarting with a simple command.
There are many guides on this site that require you to use the Group Policy Management Console. Once you’ve made the changes, do the following:
- Press the Start button and type CMD
- Right click cmd.exe and select Run as Administrator
- Now type gpupdate/force and press enter
Group policy will now refresh and your changes will be in effect.
