Update Group Policy without Restarting Your Computer

If you make a change to the group policy on your Professional; Vista Business or ; or Windows 7 machine, you will need to restart your computer to make the changes take effect. In this guide, you’ll learn avoid restarting with a simple command.

There are many guides on this site that require you to use the Group Policy Management Console. Once you’ve made the changes, do the following:

  1. Press the Start button and type CMD
  2. Right click cmd.exe and select Run as Administrator
  3. Now type gpupdate/force and press enter

Group policy will now refresh and your changes will be in effect.
