If you leave your computer on overnight, you may find you come back in the morning to find all your programs closed and that download, you were waiting for, canceled. Likely, automatic updates restarted your computer for you.. or you had a short power outage. In this guide, we’ll blame automatic updates and learn how to disable automatic installation of the updates.
Automatic updates will let you choose to download the updates, but wait for your permission to install the files. This guide is written for Vista.
Disable Automatic Updates Installation
1. Press Start and go to the Control Panel
2. Now click Security and select Turn Automatic Updating On or Off
3. Choose Download Updates but Let Me Choose Whether to Install Them
4. Press OK
Now, when updates are available, they will be downloaded and a balloon will pop up notifying you that updates are ready to install. At your convenience, install the updates that you want to include on your computer.
