HomeGroup is a great new feature in Windows 7. Unless you have multiple Windows 7 computers on your network however, HomeGroup is pretty useless.
Disabling it will remove the HomeGroup link in the left hand pane of any Explorer window and stop the HomeGroup services.
If you’re not part of a HomeGroup already, skip to Step 2.
Step 1.
Start by clicking the Start Orb and hitting Control Panel
Click on Network and Internet
Click on HomeGroup
In the Change HomeGroup Setting click on Leave the homegroup
Click on Leave the homegroup
You’ll get a confirmation message that the HomeGroup has been left. Click Finish
HomeGroup in the Control Panel should now sport the Create a homegroup button. Exit Control Panel
Step 2.
Now we need to disable the HomeGroup services. To do this, click on the Start Orb and type; services.msc. Click on services at the top of the Start Menu.
Now, scroll down the services list until you see HomeGroup Listener & HomeGroup Provider. Double click on HomeGroup Listener.
In the Startup type drop down menu, click Disabled. Under Service status, click on the Stop button. Click Apply then OK.
Repeat this step exactly for HomeGroup Provider.
The HomeGroup feature is now disabled.
