I use some folders as a dashboard to get to commonly used folders. A good example of this is my ‘Media’ partition. Here, I have my Music, Video, Pictures, and other folders. In this guide, you’ll learn how to customize your folder icons to achieve something similar to Figure 1.

Customizing Folder Icons
To change your folder icons, do the following:
1. Right click on the folder you want to customize the icon for and select Properties
2. Select the Customize tab and click on Change Icon…
3. Select an Icon or browse for your own (get thousands of icons here)
4. Press OK on both screens and you are done.
Note: To view larger icons in Windows Explorer, click the Views button, on the toolbar, until you get to large icons.
This guide comes from the ‘Windows Vista - Customization Manual’ [Download a copy now]. The customization manual runs over the basics of customizing your Windows Vista machine to make it more personal. This guide is free of charge to all www.mintywhite.com readers.

Hi, there! What if there is no “change icon” option?
I’m trying to change the icons of some default vista folders like “my pictures” and “my music”. When I follow your steps thou, there is no option to change the icon. (The customize tab only goes till restore default inside folder picture)
