At college we have software that doesn’t let you log off Windows until you remove your removable media. This is a really good idea; I am prone to leaving my stuff behind and I hate the feeling of losing something.

This functionality may be useful for you to have at home on your computer–especially if you are using your flash drive on your personal computer and you then run off to work/school etc.

In this guide, you’ll learn how to put a reminder on your computer to help you remember your flash drive before you log off.

Download Flash Drive Reminder

Flash Drive Reminder Features

When you plug in your flash drive, the auto play menu will have a reminder option. There are two versions you may download:

Standard Version

The standard version sits in your system tray and reminds you that you have a flash drive plugged in.

Quiet Version

The quiet version only makes itself known before you log off your computer or try to shut it down. The quiet version disables the ‘Add/Remove Hardware’ dialogue, so you will need to use Flash Reminder to eject your drive.

The tiny app, and its auto-starting accompanying file, sit on your drive and activate whenever you#8217ve plugged it into a Windows system. You#8217ll get a pop-up screen asking you to keep the Reminder app running during your session, and it takes up very little memory. When you go to log off or shut down your session, the reminder pops back up, reminding you to yank out your drive. That#8217s about it, though there is a #8220quiet#8221 version that doesn#8217t present the pop-up window when you first plug in. Flash Drive Reminder is a free download, works on any USB drive (but only activates on Windows systems). If you#8217ve got a better system for remembering your drive, software or physical, let#8217s hear it in the comments. Flash Drive Reminder [via Windows Guides] […]

[…] Windows only: Free application Flash Drive Reminder wants to ensure you never forget your thumb drive again when you leave your computer. It does so by adding an autoplay option to your thumb drive that, if chosen, provide reminders in two different ways, depending on which version you download. In the standard version, Flash Drive Reminder displays a pop-up reminder as soon as your thumb drive is plugged in, then alerts you again when you log off or shut down (assuming you haven#8217t already unplugged your thumb drive)mdashperfect for the forgetful crowd. In the quiet version, the app only displays a reminder notification whenever you try to log off or shut down. Flash Drive Reminder is a free download, Windows only.
