PROS: Clean interface, easy installation, one-click cleaning (automatic with PRO version), tons of modules to help you optimize your PC.CONS: The PRO version is a little pricey for me. Some modules are not well explained and could leave users a little unsure of what is going on with their PC.
VERDICT: The free version is free for personal use and I highly recommend it. The PRO version is $28 at time of writing, but I’d still like to see it for $20. Definitely try the free version and explore the PRO features to see what you think. PRICE: Free (Pro $39.95.) VERSION REVIEWED: PRO 2.17.0.776 DOWNLOAD: Glary Utilities |
Glary Utilities Features
Right out of the box, Glary Utilities means business and I could just tell this is a well put together application. I’ve heard a lot about the program from website visitors in emails and on the Forums. Glary Utilities is packed with features that help you clean your PC and keep it moving well. Many IT gurus (or self-proclaimed gurus) will tell you the best way to maintain a PC is to do it manually (kind of like avoiding car washes and cleaning the car yourself.) While I agree this is the best way, there are two flaws with this concept:
- You have to really know what you’re doing.
- It simply takes too much time.
This is where Glary Utilities shines:
- This program works and it works well.
- One click a day (or automatic in the PRO version) takes a lot less time than manual cleaning.
Installation
Installation, as with any good software, is a breeze. I opted for the 30-day trial of the PRO version to get the most out of its features and decide if the PRO version is really worth the RRP of $39.95 USD.
Once you’re into the program, you’ll notice how clean the user interface is. I actually expected more, without realizing there’s a ton going on in the background that you simply don’t have to worry about.
The registry cleaner is thorough and, after setting a restore point, I went ahead and accepted the suggestions the program offered. Previous to the scan, I removed Windows Calendar and, sure enough, Glary picked up on the invalid registry entry.
The modules are well-organized and some more useful than others. Let’s see… what’s this Memory Optimizer?
I decided I’d try to free 2GB of RAM…
I also decided to let the Memory Optimizer run in the background. After a day or two of using this feature, I noticed no problems; however, I didn’t feel my computer ran any quicker (computers are pretty quick these days relative to consumer-grade software needs.)
My content menu is an awful mess, which is full of functions I don’t use; thus, I put the Context Menu Manager to work and cleaned things up.
Overall, I like Glary Utilities and am very impressed with how clean it is and how well it works. I gave it four stars simply because of the price of the PRO version. There must be a lot of people willing to pay $40 for the program (although it’s on offer for $28 at the time of writing), but I’d be more tempted if it had, say, a $20 price tag. The program itself is worthy of 4 1/2 stars to me.
