I'm moving to Windows 7 Ultimate. I just hope the cost of a license isn't too high when it finally comes out!

If anyone's interested, here are the things I am doing before I wipe Vista and install 7:

  • My personal folders are all on my Media (E) partition, so no data movement necessary.
  • Take screenshots of my installed programs to remember what I installed
  • Backing up my drivers (just in case I can't get any online and the Vista ones work)
  • Saving my Firefox passwords and taking note of my installed add-ons (Bookmarks are saved via Foxmarks)
  • De-authorizing my computer on iTunes (so it doesn't remain authorized and count as one of my five computers)
  • Backup my Outlook calendar and contacts to my iPhone
  • Backup my Rainmeter and Samurize settings

Things I'll do once Seven is installed:

  • Install updates
  • Install my programs
  • Get Mozy Backup running
  • Get Firefox set up again
  • Make a VMWare image of Windows Vista

Probably boring for most of you, but may be helpful for anyone planning to "make the switch."

I liked the Second tip Rich! Taking screenshot of installed programs.

I actually went ahead and did an upgrade (to save time... or so I thought.)

Usually I like a clean install, but I wanted to save time...

The upgrade took about three hours. Yes, I'm not kidding, but so far, I see that it did an excellent job. I feel like I just applied a Windows 7 skin to my desktop because everything carried over!

Good job Microsoft.

Glad to hear that everything is working well for you. I'm sure a 7 key (especially if you upgraded and didn't clean install) will not be that expensive. Hopefully 7 will still run everything you need it to and not run in to too many "beta" problems. But let's be honest it will sometimes.

Yeah I've already had problems, but they are mainly configuration problems that a restart fixes. I don't expect much right now, but I was getting tired of Vista.
