FireFox Add-ons

I have tried many Firefox extensions – listed here are the 9 best add-ons; I recommend them to everyone.

At a glance, I will review and link to the following nine add-ons:

  • AdBlock Plus
  • Adblock Filterset G. Update
  • Better Gmail 2
  • DownThemAll
  • Foxmarks Bookmark Synchronizer
  • Fullerscreen
  • Greasemonkey
  • StumbleUpon
  • Tiny Menu

FireFox Add-ons

AdBlock Plus – AdBlock Plus has changed my internet browsing – I carry Firefox on my USB key, so I rarely use a browser without AdBlock Plus. I really don’t see many more adverts anymore; this is a MUST for all Firefox browsers. Keep it updated with the Adblock Filterset G. Updater.

Adblock Filterset G. Updater – As stated above, Adblock Filterset G. Updater keeps AdBlock Plus up to date with new websites and definitions, so you are always up to date with the newest advertising companies.

Better Gmail 2 – If you use Gmail, this extension is a must. You can apply themes, lose the Google Adsense to the side, remove the Invite box on the left, and much more–a great extension for all Gmail users.

DownThemAll! – Ever wanted to save all the Videos, MP3s, pictures etc from a website on to your hard drive? This add-on will take care of that for you.

Foxmarks Bookmark Synchronizer – This is essential if you use more than one computer – like most of us who work in an office do. With this add-on, you can access your bookmarks from any copy of Firefox.

Fullerscreen – Do you want to browse at full screen, but still have quick access to the address bar? This is the extension for you. Maximize your browsing potential!

Greasemonkey – You can customize the most popular pages on the internet such as: Facebook, MySpace, iGoogle etc. Download this add-on, visit UserScripts.org, and download scripts to use with this extension. This is a great way to get rid of adverts, or sections of the website you don’t want to use.

StumbleUpon – You probably found this site using StumbleUpon. If you did not… and you don’t have StumbleUpon, go get it now. Browse your favorite genre’s of web pages by taking recommendations from people with similar interests — all at the click of a button.

Tiny Menu – Finally, a great extension to maximize your Firefox browsing area – use tiny menu to make the menu… tiny. See below. A small picture, but you can see that I can fit everything: Menu, URL bar, Bookmarks, Search box, and my StumbleUpon toolbar all on one row.

Makes a world of difference! You can never ever go back!

Any FF add-ons list gets dated quickly..

Called decluttering - what I like to do with it is put the address bar on the Menus toolbar and I get that much more screen space!
  • Mel
yes - I have found this to be a necessity for me.
  • Mel
And new ones keep on coming that are must haves! You just have to keep looking to see what is new on the FF add-on front!

Foxmarks, (now Xmarks) really comes in handy if you have had to do a reinstall of operating system. After the reinstall, just add your Xmarks add on, resync, your bookmarks and Voila, your bookmarks (and passwords if set to do so) are all back. Do an import to IE and your good to go!

Good collection, but I would also recommend IE tab. Allows you to open internet exploder in a tab in firefox. Comes in handy when you just have to use IE on some sites.

    cooliris.com aka originally called piclens
    JC mentions piclens

Cool ideas, but I don't personally see the point in tiny menu, it just adds an extra click everytime you need to use the menu system in FF

  • Canten
I use 8 of those! Wow and I only use 8, so that's crazy. Useful, nonetheless

Good collection, but I agree ... you should put together a list of add-ons for Firefox 3 (maybe you did, but I can't find them)
  • Ben
    Super collection- thank you
  • Valeria Forex

Comprehensive collection of the best add-ons. I use 8 of these and only one more, so I didn't get much from this, but I think it's a really good list.
